Farah clone set to disappoint rivals

NRL clubs waiting to pounce on boom Tigers hooker Tallyn Da Silva are set to be disappointed. The talented 19-year-old - whose dummyhalf work is similar to that of Tigers legend Robbie Farah - comes off contract at the end of 2026 and can talk to rival clubs come November 1. But Tigers boss Shane Richardson knows a star of the future when he sees one and he plans to have Da Silva under lock and key on a long-term deal well before season's end. Da Silva combined superbly with veteran Api Koroisau in the upset win over the Dolphins, with both scoring tries.

Deja Vu for the Tigers

Exactly 20 years ago, a magnificent spine of halves Scott Prince and Benji Marshall, fullback Brett Hodgson and hooker Robbie Farah combined to deliver Wests Tigers the unlikeliest of premierships. A 150-1 shot early in the season in the bookies' eyes, the Tigers stormed home to take the title in memorable style. It's been lean pickings since then - but suddenly the Tigers have found a spine to match the heady days of 2005. Halves Lachlan Galvin and Jarome Luai, hooker Api Koroisau and fullback Jahream Bula were all superb as the Tigers thrashed a lethargic Parramatta 32-6. With the quartet calling the shots, the Tigers played magnificent attacking football reminiscent to that used by Tim Sheens in that wonderful winter two decades ago. 

Farah's bid for super league club falls

Former Tigers favourite Robbie Farah has revealed that he was in a group that was in negotiations to buy the London Broncos recently. Along with former Tigers boss Lee Hagipantelis, businessman Jai Ayoub and others, Farah looked into the possibility of taking over the running of the British club. "It all came about through (Broncos official) Tony Rea who I've known for years," Farah told Wide World of Sports. "He floated the idea to us and we looked into it but it didn't quite stack up, even though the potential is there."

Robbie Farah hasn't wasted any time moving on to the next chapter of his life after winding up his 20-odd years as a football player and coach. Less than a week after finishing up as assistant coach of the Tigers, Farah has started a new position as head of partnerships with sports and adventure travel firm TWO4SEVEN. Farah founded the company a few years ago with Jai Ayoub - son of well-known player manager Sam - but has stepped up to play a far greater role. He is also working as an ambassador, alongside the great Johnathan Thurston, for investment firm Barclay Pearce. "TWO4SEVEN do all sorts of travel groups - from the Super Bowl to Formula One to the big European soccer, even African safaris," Farah told Wide World of Sports. "Being so involved in football has prevented me from being as hands on as I wanted to be but this is the new me. "I even plan to go to Las Vegas next year. "And with the ambassador role, JT and I want to help young players invest their money - too many in the past have just wasted it away." Farah admits he hasn't quite come to terms with his changing life. "Right now it feels just like another off season," he said. "It will probably sink in when the boys all start pre-season training again."

Secret rift behind surprise exit of Tigers legend

A difference of opinion with skipper Api Koroisau is the real reason Tigers legend Robbie Farah will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Koroisau and Farah - the two best hookers in the Tigers' history - haven't seen eye to eye over a number of issues for over 12 months. The result has been a disjointed club - and one of the pair had to go. Farah is staying on as an assistant coach to Benji Marshall until season's end but playing a reduced role. He has business interests and a high profile in Tiger-town so will have no problem adapting to life away from the game. The club is likely to deny the rift but several club insiders have confirmed it to Wide World of Sports. Benji is now on the lookout for a more experienced second in command following a rough ride in his first season at the helm of the club.

Issue that could bring 'vulnerable' Tigers undone

It's back to the future for the Tigers in 2023, with veteran Tim Sheens returning to take charge 18 years after he led the club to the promised land.Alongside him on the coaching staff are two of the heroes of that memorable premiership triumph in 2005, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah.Sheens hasn't mucked around since taking over, bolstering the wooden spooners with some key signings.Apart from the Bulldogs, the Tigers have probably recruited better than any team in the NRL and should improve vastly on their meagre tally of four wins in 2022.Throw in some exciting youngsters the club has been developing and things are looking positive in Tiger-town for the first time in several years.Will they feature in the race for the finals? Probably not quite this year - but by 2024 they will be a force to be reckoned with. 2022 finishing position: Last (16th).

Wests Tigers great Robbie Farah sets sights on gym venture

Robbie Farah is no longer chopping down rugby league's biggest men 50 times a game or raiding opposition defences with his laser-sharp guile.But in the words of the Wests Tigers great, a new career venture is sure to "get the competitive juices flowing again."Farah and business partner Jai Ayoub have linked up with juggernaut Australian gym chain Body Fit Training, striking a deal that will see them open their own studio in the inner-west Sydney suburb of Five Dock. The pair are also planning to eventually open a second Body Fit Training gym in Marrickville and a pilates studio in Concord, having teamed up with Australian business KX Pilates.After building a reputation as a relentless competitor across 17 years with the Tigers, Rabbitohs, the NSW Blues, Australia and Lebanon, Farah is setting about helping others test their limits."You retire and you move on from the game and then you've got to figure out what your next passion is," Farah told Wide World of Sports.
