Souths turn to Burgess to recruit rising star

South Sydney are eyeing a player that could give their backline some much-needed firepower, with Newcastle winger Dom Young being courted for a move to Redfern.According to Nine's Danny Weidler, Bunnies legend Sam Burgess has been on the recruitment drive for his former club, selling a life under Jason Demetriou to the England international. The Rabbitohs are well stocked in most areas of the field, and recently locked up three of their key players for the foreseeable future, with Damien Cook's re-signing followed by Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell a week later. But there is a glaring hole on the opposite wing to try-scoring freak Alex Johnston; Jaxson Paulo and Josh Mansour have left the club, Taane Milne will begin the season with a massive suspension, leaving Izaac Thompson, who played just two games in 2022, as the club's likely starter.Young is off-contract with Newcastle at the end of this season, although the Knights have publicly said that they are hopeful he'll stay put.Young's manager, Michael Cincotta, told the Newcastle Herald last week that there was a big chance of the winger staying put, but that he'd have to weigh up all possible scenarios."He's got a good relationship there, so there's no reason to leave," Cincotta said."He's got a lot of his friends there and has obviously settled in really well and come off a good year."There's every chance that he stays, but I'm just going through the process of making sure we look at all options while we can."
