'I'm happy': Tigers star squashes rumours amid Galvin saga

Jahream Bula has brushed off suggestions he could be the next player to want out at the Wests Tigers, with the fullback reiterating he is "happy" at the club. In the wake of the Lachlan Galvin saga, which will see the five-eighth leave at the end of next season, Bula's name was quickly thrown into the rumour mill. The 23-year-old is also managed by the controversial Isaac Moses, who has been at loggerheads with the Tigers for many years, leading to speculation he could suggest a future for the Fijian international at another NRL team. But speaking to media on Thursday, the fleet-footed Bula was quick to squash it. "I'm happy at this club - I don't really want to talk about that stuff," he said. "I don't really listen to the outside noise. They love you when you're up, they bash you when you're down - but I don't really listen to that stuff. "I listen to the people that have earned the right to say their opinion to me." Bula has become one of Benji Marshall's most potent attacking weapons and is already signed with the Concord-based outfit until the end of 2027. The recent issues involving Galvin - which included senior players being offside with the wantaway youngster before his successful return in round nine at Leichhardt Oval - haven't appeared to weigh on Bula. "I love the kid - we've got a good relationship and it's one I'll cherish forever," he said. "He's a very resilient kid and it showed when he played that game how resilient he is, especially after that tough week." The side will take on the Dragons on Saturday night at Magic Round.

'Devastating blow' looms for Tigers amid messy feud

A tough month for Wests Tigers could be about to get a whole lot harder with the club needing to have a serious chat to star fullback Jahream Bula. One of the best young talents in the game, Bula is managed by the controversial Isaac Moses, who has decimated the club in recent years. Not only has Moses persuaded brilliant playmaker Lachlan Galvin to quit the club and leave it in a mess, he has a long track record of taking his best clients out of Tiger town. James Tedesco, Aaron Woods and Mitchell Moses were all moved on by the player agent and now that the gloves are really off following the messy Galvin saga, there is no doubt he will try to get Bula out as well. The club needs to tell Bula to get a new agent or move on. Other clubs who refuse to deal with Moses - notably the Roosters - have adopted that tactic. The club has nothing to lose as Bula will be lost to them at the end of 2026 when he can invoke a get-out clause in his contract. His departure would be another devastating blow to the Tigers at a time when the club is trying to rebuild and shed the dreaded wooden spoon after three straight seasons.

Deja Vu for the Tigers

Exactly 20 years ago, a magnificent spine of halves Scott Prince and Benji Marshall, fullback Brett Hodgson and hooker Robbie Farah combined to deliver Wests Tigers the unlikeliest of premierships. A 150-1 shot early in the season in the bookies' eyes, the Tigers stormed home to take the title in memorable style. It's been lean pickings since then - but suddenly the Tigers have found a spine to match the heady days of 2005. Halves Lachlan Galvin and Jarome Luai, hooker Api Koroisau and fullback Jahream Bula were all superb as the Tigers thrashed a lethargic Parramatta 32-6. With the quartet calling the shots, the Tigers played magnificent attacking football reminiscent to that used by Tim Sheens in that wonderful winter two decades ago. 

Tigers re-sign young gun despite horror season

The Wests Tigers' off-season has received a major boost with young gun Jahream Bula signing a long-term extension with the embattled club. Bula has been one of the Tigers' shining lights after making his NRL debut this season, and signed a two-year extension to remain at the club through 2027.The 21-year-old was voted the Tigers' player of the year by his teammates and also won the team's rookie of the year award. He is a leading contender to be named Dally M Rookie of the Year. "I want to stay here as long as I can," Bula said in a club statement on Wednesday. "The club blessed me with this opportunity and I'm not in this position without them."I want to hopefully win a championship here one day, that's my goal. "Incoming Wests Tigers head coach Benji Marshall said the club is "super excited" to lock Bula in long-term. "He has been an exciting young talent and proven his toughness in first grade in his debut season," he said. "This is only the beginning for Jahream, and we look forward to him being a massive part of our future at the Wests Tigers. "He is a humble and hard-working young man who displays all the attributes I want our club to look like in the future. "Bula scored five tries in 18 appearances in his debut season after playing his first match against the Manly Sea Eagles in round eight.

Young Tiger continues to draw rave reviews

Last week I was chatting with Tigers coach Tim Sheens about Jahream Bula and he cautioned me (saying), "You haven't seen anything yet - wait until the kid plays on a dry track".Sheens pointed out that the youngster's two NRL games to date were in wet and slippery conditions, making it hard for him to shine.Well, Bula got his dry track in Magic Round yesterday - and was dynamic.The promising fullback ran for 180 metres but his defence was the real eye-catcher - he produced three try-saving tackles and was the difference between the Tigers and a sloppy Dragons side.Bula looks a real prospect and is one of a host of youngsters Sheens and Benji Marshall have pencilled in for NRL in the next couple of seasons.The Tigers have now recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since April 2022 - and things are suddenly looking much rosier at Concord.

Good news comes for Tigers

Tigers coach Tim Sheens has been saying all season that he has good kids coming through - but didn't want to rush them into the top grade.But desperate times call for desperate measures and Sheens somewhat reluctantly handed fullback Jahream Bula his top-grade debut against Manly.Bula, a 21-year-old from New Zealand was put under intense pressure by Manly in difficult conditions - but shone in the gloom of Campbelltown.The youngster ran for 173 metres - the most of any player on the field - and won his duel with Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic.And the best news for Tigers fans? He agreed to a new extended contract last week.
