Smith hurrying to prepare for Souths match

Brandon Smith may not play in the Roosters' match against the Rabbitohs on Friday night due to a muscular injury he sustained during last week's victory over the Warriors. The Roosters will decide on Thursday whether he is fit to play after he completes a full session and physiotherapy work. Roosters coach Trent Robinson disclosed that Smith only participated in a portion of training earlier in the week. If Smith is unable to play, Jake Turpin will serve as his replacement.Smith was removed from the game last weekend after sustaining the injury while tackling Marcelo Montoya, causing concerns that he may have injured his ribs or lower back. However, Robinson revealed that it was a muscular issue. It has been a difficult start to Smith's tenure as a Rooster, as he also suffered a head injury during their opening loss to the Dolphins.

Robinson praised the NRL for introducing an 11-day stand-down policy for players who have been diagnosed with a concussion. The Roosters have always prioritized their players' well-being, as demonstrated by the retirements of Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend due to concussion-related issues, as well as the careful management of Luke Keary for his long-term safety. Robinson believes that the policy is a smart move and that it is good to have exceptions in place for slight shifts or changes based on specific criteria.
