Struggling Bulldogs give rugby star crack at NRL

The Bulldogs have given a barnstorming Super Rugby and former Australian Rugby Sevens forward a crack at making the NRL - immediately.Jeral Skelton, a 23-year-old back-rower from the Melbourne Rebels, has joined the Bulldogs immediately on a trial deal.A cousin of well known former Wallaby Will Skelton, the tall forward is mobile and fast for a big man and looks to have the attributes to make it in rugby league.Skelton will get a chance to show his wares in the NSW Cup in coming weeks and push for a fulltime deal with the Bulldogs for next season. With the Rebels' season over, Skelton decided to give league a crack and Bulldogs scouts were impressed with his highlights reel.Skelton was carving out an impressive career with the Australian Rugby Sevens team until COVID struck, severely cutting back the sevens schedule. That prompted a move to the 15-a-side game, where he achieved little game time at the Rebels.
