Matty Johns calls out Cameron Munster detail in $1.2 million truth bomb for Dylan Brown

Matty Johns has delivered a reality check to Dylan Brown after claiming the sort of money the Eels star is hoping to negotiate should be reserved only for the game's best five-eights, such as Cameron Munster. It has been widely reported that Brown's management is seeking a new deal for the playmaker worth as much as $1.2 million per season, which would put him amongst the game's highest-paid players. News Corp also reported this week that Brown's management had discussed a potential 10-year, $11 million deal with as many as three rival clubs, as the Eels battle to hold onto the New Zealand international. Brown is currently on a reported $900,000 per season, with ratchet clauses in his contract that will eventually see him pocket a seven-figure salary from 2026. But the controversial extension that the 24-year-old negotiated with Parramatta until the end of the 2031 season also contains a number of player options in his favour that allow the No.6 to walk away before then. Brown has until round 10 of the 2025 season to negotiate with rival clubs for next year or take up the option in his current deal with the Eels. He also holds player options in his favour for the following two seasons. Eels teammate and captain Mitchell Moses holds similar player options for 2027 and 2028 in his estimated $1.25 million-a-year deal, with many Eels fans understandably unhappy about the situation. While Moses has proven himself on the biggest stage after starring in the Blues' State of Origin win last year and the Kangaroos' Pacific Championships triumph, many feel that Brown has not quite reached those heights and have questioned whether he's worth as much as $1.2 million per season. That sort of money would catapult Brown into the top echelon of the NRL's highest-paid players such as Moses, Munster, Nathan Cleary, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Jarome Luai and Tom Trbojevic. Only Kalyn Ponga blows the rest of the field away, with the former Dally M winner on a $1.4 million-a-year deal at the Knights. And Johns does not believe Brown has done enough to warrant such a lofty price tag.
