Wests Tigers are embroiled in a battle with the NSW Waratahs and several rival NRL clubs for the best teenage centre coming through the ranks. Heamasi Makasini has taken the Harold Matthews Cup competition by storm this season for Wests Magpies, ripping through rival teams with his strength and speed. The 17-year-old, who goes to famous rugby union school Newington College, has bagged 10 tries and 27 goals in just eight games. A powerhouse ball-runner, the youngster of Tongan descent looks like a man playing against boys and has attracted the attention of talent scouts throughout both rugby codes. He is signed with the Tigers until the end of 2025, with the club keen to extend him for many more years beyond that.
