Tigers boss fires up over 'not true' Benji rumour

New Wests Tigers chief Shane Richardson has leapt to the defence of Benji Marshall, slamming the "bullshit" rumours about the rookie coach. Prior to the club legend's first official game in charge at NRL level, question marks were raised regarding Marshall's commitment and leadership style, with claims he wasn't a '24/7 coach' like others in the competition. Marshall refuted the suggestions prior to the Tigers' round two loss against the Raiders, claiming he is "the first person in the building" each day before training. Speaking on Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night, the Tigers chief executive threw his support behind Marshall and praised him for his efforts since replacing Tim Sheens. "We're not going to be blown off our path by criticism that is just not true... it's just bullshit on every level," Richardson said. "He wants him and his players to have a family life, it's a good thing not a bad thing. "At the end of the day, there is no one, in my time, that is more thorough and organised than Benji. Somewhere between Madge (Michael Maguire) and Wayne Bennett is Benji. "That's not a bad thing." Senior reporter Michael Chammas also revealed internal concerns that Marshall had been slandered by former recruitment boss Scott Fulton, who was sacked by the Tigers earlier this year. Marshall's first-up result as head coach saw the Tigers defeated 32-12 on the road against the Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The side will now look to regroup before a clash with the undefeated Sharks.
