Coen Hess will miss the entire 2024 NRL campaign, with the Cowboys veteran suffering a serious knee injury during the pre-season trial against Canberra. The experienced forward left the field during North Queensland's win on Sunday, with scans now revealing the full extent of the injury. Hess will undergo surgery for a torn ACL and spend all of 2024 on the sidelines, which is the final year of his contract with the club. A six-time Queensland representative, Hess is one of the club's leaders. He has played more than 160 games for the Cowboys since making his debut in 2015. The news is a major blow for Todd Payten's side, which also released Luciano Leilua last week to the Dragons, while the likes of Mitch Dunn and James Tamou also departed. Hess' absence will likely open the door for Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and Thomas Mikaele to further cement themselves in the top grade in Townsville, while a lot of weight will now fall onto the shoulders of former skipper, Jason Taumalolo.
