'Cocky' Knights 'dodged a bullet'

Canberra did Newcastle an almighty favour by almost ending the Knights' remarkable 10-game winning run on Sunday. The Knights were virtually unbackable favourites before a capacity home crowd - and clearly went out thinking they were unbeatable.By half-time, they were in a state of shock, down 10 points and making a host of unforced errors. They finally won a thriller 30-28 in extra time - but you could see the relief on the faces of the Knights players as they dodged a bullet.Canberra was the better team for long periods, but when the Knights struck, they struck quickly and hard with danger men Kalyn Ponga, Dominic Young and Greg Marzhew getting them out of trouble. It was the wake-up call the Knights needed and coach Adam O'Brien won't have to warn his players about being cocky again when they travel to the Warriors next weekend.
