Paul Gallen offered stunning return to Cronulla Sharks

The Cronulla Sharks are reportedly sizing up Paul Gallen for a position on the club's board. The 39-year-old retired from the NRL after the 2019 season and has since turned his focus to his boxing career. But the Sharks are reportedly keen to get Gallen back to club in a boardroom role. Speaking on NRL 360 on Monday night, veteran reporter Phil Rothfield said Gallen could join the Sharks board in 2022. “They’ve taken steps to fix the football knowledge issue," Rothfield said. "They’ve asked Paul Gallen to stand for the board with Steve Mace next year, as the football expert on the board. "Some people might laugh at this and think ‘what’s an old front-rower doing’ – Gal actually does his own fight contracts.  "He has quite a bit commercial property portfolio, he works the stock market. A lot of people don’t see this – I’m saying he is intelligent. "He’s not there to run the business. He’s there because he built, with Shane Flanagan, the 2016 side by getting Luke Lewis across and getting Mick Ennis across. "To run recruitment, be the board representative with the senior management to fix the issues they’ve now got. "Paul Gallen, once he finishes fighting next year, he is very keen to do it."
