One Gold Coast Titans star has caught the attention of Queensland great Darren Lockyer as the race to earn a call up to the Origin arena heats up. With both representative teams facing their own selection dilemmas, it is unclear how many changes will be made to either side before game one on May 28. However, Beau Fermor now appears in line to make his Queensland debut after Lockyer - on the selection panel - name dropped him on Wide World of Sports' QLDER this week. Several players are gunning to make the Maronos squad with just two games remaining to push their case to Billy Slater and his selectors. Lockyer and Gene Miles are the other selectors who will decide their fate. Lockyer admitted that the panel will be looking to integrate some depth on the edge with their backrowers. "I think getting some depth on the edge, the backrowers," Lockyer said on Wide World of Sports' QLDER. "Last year we had a lot of injuries on the field and in the middle we were down on troops. "Lindsay Collins, I think he's back soon. Tino (Fa'asuamaleaui) is back. Touch wood, they all stay healthy. "The middle of the field looks to have a bit more depth but the edges, I still think there are people out there - we mentioned Beau Fermor - that are still vying for positions. "Origin is about attitude and effort," Lockyer continued. "If you've got those two things working for you then Billy will see that and you'll be a good chance." Fermor has previously admitted he would like to be step into the Origin arena with the Maroons, having been named in the extended squad in 2022. However, until then, he remains committed to his role with the Titans. So far this season, Fermor has been favoured by coach Des Hasler over David Fifita for the starting left edge spot with the Titans. Rumour has it Fifita fell out with Hasler after requesting to replace Fermor on Gold Coast's left edge, only to be told no. Fermor has featured in every game for the club and scored on five occasions this year. He also has a 92.8 per cent tackling efficiency and averages 116 run metres per game.
