Walters impress but signs arn't good

Billy Walters is fighting for his rugby league career at the Broncos - and made an early impression in the 50-12 thrashing of the Titans in Toowoomba on Sunday. Paying at five-eighth, Walters set up the first try of the game for centre Gehamat Shibasaki. The son of sacked coached Kevin Walters was the Broncos' starting hooker - but word is things will be different under Michael Maguire. And the fact that Maguire took two hookers - Cory Paix and Tyson Smoothy into what was in effect a reserve grade trial - and played Walters at six, is not a good sign for Billy. He didn't do much after that early touch of class, while Paix scored two tries, staking his claim for a spot in the Broncos' top 17 for round one.
