Eels star's weight loss confession amid 'scary' change

Parramatta Eels prop Junior Paulo has revealed the benefits of his Lisfranc injury and opened up on the changes at the club. Paulo suffered the injury in round 18 last year, as he watched his side continue to capitulate. The Eels managed to just avoid the wooden spoon, finishing 15th. During his injury recovery and the off season, the prop has managed to drop weight, putting his motivation down to his age in comparison to the rest of the squad. "I'm definitely a few kegs lighter, now being the oldest in the team you've got to be able to come up with new ways to keep up with these young guys," he told 9News Sydney. "I had a lot of time to think and I'm not going to say it was all good times but if shedding a couple kegs is going to be the best thing for me then that's something I'm definitely willing to do." The squad Paulo finished his season with will look considerably different to the one he's playing with in 2025 after significant turnover with Jason Ryles coming in as coach. Clint Gutherson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Maika Sivo and Blaize Talagi were the big names to go while Zac Lomax, Josh Addo-Carr and Isaiah Iongi are the major inclusions. The prop admits it was necessary to revitalise the squad. "Change can be a bit scary at times but change was obviously needed at the club," he said.
