Matt Lodge may have saved his NRL career

Veteran prop Matt Lodge may well have saved his NRL career with a powerhouse game in the Sea Eagles' come from behind win against the Bulldogs on Sunday. The former bad boy is off contract at Manly and the club hasn't rushed to re-sign the 29-year-old for 2025. Lodge's manager has been fielding calls from England and Super League looked like the only chance of him playing on … until now. The rangy prop made 17 runs - the most he has all season - and led the Sea Eagles' forwards in yardage, as well as coming up with some big hits. He put himself right in the shop window and if Manly can't fit him in, another club seems certain to step in. Lodge has come a long way since his wild early days and is now a family man well regarded by Sea Eagles officials and fellow players.
