Daniel Saifiti has confirmed he will leave the Knights at season's end, with the front-rower expected to join a rival NRL club in 2025. Newcastle's campaign came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday night, falling 28-16 against the Cowboys in the first elimination final. Saifiti started at prop and finished with 131 run metres and 31 tackles, but now appears to be headed for the exit after a lengthy contract saga. The 28-year-old has been a stalwart for the Knights since making his debut eight years ago and has been one of the club's most reliable players, but an Instagram story with Dane Gagai now confirms he won't be in red and blue next season. "Was there for my debut and there for last," Saifiti captioned the post. Saifiti and his twin brother Jacob both came through the system at Newcastle and remained the only surviving members of the 2016 wooden spoon squad. Gagai was also part of that roster, but moved to the Rabbitohs for a number of years before returning to the Hunter region. At this stage, Daniel's next club has not been announced, but a move up north to join the Dolphins appears the most likely destination. St George Illawarra and Canterbury were also monitoring the situation with Saifiti but aren't expected to land the former State of Origin enforcer, who still had two years to run on a deal worth approximately $850,000 per season.
