Izack Tago is reportedly set to become one of the highest-paid centres in the NRL, with the Panthers gun closing in on an upgraded $3 million deal. The 21-year-old has emerged as a strike weapon for Penrith in recent seasons, winning two premierships with the club and representing Samoa at the international level. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the local junior has agreed to terms for a contract extension which would see him remain at the foot of the Mountains until 2028. Tago is already signed with the Panthers for next season, but his management and the club were reportedly keen to lock in his future following the departure of new Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton in the off-season. His new salary will come it around $750,000 per year, putting him alongside the likes of Joseph Manu, Campbell Graham and Bradman Best. With 24 tries in 49 games in the top grade, Tago is a crucial part of the Penrith dynasty and will only become more important now with Crichton switching teams and Jarome Luai also set to depart at the end of the year. Tago will join the likes of Nathan Cleary and Dylan Edwards in committing to the three-time reigning premiers for at least the next four years. At this stage, the Panthers are yet to confirm Tago's contract extension, with an announcement expected soon.
