The Sydney Roosters have challenged former Test and State of Origin forward Angus Crichton to show he still has the passion for what shapes as his final year in the NRL by omitting him from the team for the big Vegas season-opener against Brisbane. The 28-year-old forward, who will earn about $675,000 this year, is destined to switch to the 15-a-side code in 2025 and is coming off a poor season last year in which he also had off-field issues. Roosters coach Trent Robinson is a massive fan of rookie Siua Wong, who was so impressive last year off the bench, and has thrown him straight into the starting team. Crichton is in Vegas with the team and while he may still be a late inclusion on the bench, it is likely he will be left out and made to earn his position through the lower grades. The Roosters - a club that is not accustomed to losing its marquee players - are fuming with rugby union. The club has already lost brilliant youngster Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii to Rugby Australia and star utility back Joey Manu looks destined to switch codes in France. Losing a third representative star to the 15-a-side game is not a scenario the club could have imagined a couple of years ago but it seems certain to happen.
