New favourite emerges in bid to sign Cleary's backup

The Knights have emerged as favourites to sign Penrith fill-in halfback Jack Cogger. The Panthers are keen to retain Cogger, who has done a fine job as replacement for the injured Nathan Cleary, but he is likely to move on to further his top grade career. The 25-year-old is a Knights junior and was given the tour of the club's centre of excellence with coach Adam O'Brien and head of football Peter Parr on Tuesday. Cogger began his top grade career with the Knights, playing 20 games in three seasons from 2016 to 2018 before two seasons with the Bulldogs and two at Huddersfield in Super League, where he honed his craft before getting the call from Penrith this year. A former Australian Schoolboy, he is the son of former Western Suburbs favourite Trevor Cogger.
