Brandon Smith Fires For Chooks

For 40 minutes up on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon, the Roosters showed us a glimpse of the team that has been among the NRL's glamour sides for the past decade. With their big guns firing, the Roosters stunned the Titans as they charged to a 30-0 lead to all but lock up an invaluable two points. For the team that started the game with the least tries in the league, it was a remarkable turnaround - and much of it can be put down to the return of Brandon Smith at No.9.In his first start at hooker since Magic Round, Smith was outstanding and steered the Roosters around the park smartly. He ran for almost 100 metres, made a linebreak and gave his outside men time and space - and the Roosters of old returned. It's been a tough first season in the red, white and blue for Smith - form slumps, switching between lock and hooker and a broken thumb didn't help his cause. But back to full fitness and fresh after a long break, Smith could be the man to steer the Roosters for a late charge to the finals.
