Farcical last minute call stops forward's club switch

Wests Tigers backflipped on Joe Ofahengaue's proposed mid-season move to the Eels, despite the Tigers' 2022 player of the year undergoing a medical at Parramatta.According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Tigers held a meeting on Wednesday night that determined Ofahengaue wouldn't be released before the weekend, and would be available to play in Luke Brooks' 200th game against the Cowboys on Saturday. However, that didn't stop the 27-year-old from heading to Kellyville for a medical the next day and meeting Eels officials. While the switch has been delayed, it's likely the former Origin star's release will take place next week as Parramatta desperately look for players due to an injury crisis in their forward pack. The Eels were preparing for Ofahengaue to sign a two-and-a-half year contract with the club on Thursday with the player said to be a chance to play for the Eels' NSW Cup team on Friday. But the Tigers halted proceedings and the deal now runs the risk of falling over if Ofahengaue is injured this weekend.Ofahengaue is under contract at the Tigers until the end of 2025.
