Lachlan Ilias has started 2023 with the best performance of his short NRL career.Thrown in at the deep end last season as the replacement for Souths' favourite son Adam Reynolds, Ilias had an up and down year.But in the round one win over Cronulla on Saturday night, Ilias came of age as an NRL playmaker.The young halfback produced a stunning try-saving tackle, scored a solo try soon afterwards and had a hand in three others as Souths outclassed a scrappy Cronulla 27-18.With the scores locked at 12-all at half-time and Souths down two forwards through injury, Cronulla would have been confident of a victory before a capacity home crowd.But Ilias kept his cool and guided the Rabbitohs to a brave win against the odds.
