New Manly coach Anthony Seibold is going back to the future in a bid to re-capture the spirit of the embattled Sea Eagles in 2023. Manly are still a club divided after last year's Pride jumper fiasco, which saw the club's finals campaign crash and burn. But Seibold has taken the club back to its roots in a bid to get harmony back - by getting players to reach out to its history. Last week, every Manly player rang one of the club's former stars for a chat and welfare check - and to talk about the Sea Eagles' rich past. "I thought it would be a good idea for the guys to make contact with the players who dug the well," Seibold told "It was great for these young guys to talk to players who had represented the club in the past and the former players also seemed to enjoy knowing that they hadn't been forgotten. "So it was a win-win situation. "It's a good life skill to ring someone out of the blue and strike up a conversation and the boys got a lot of of it, getting to talk to older guys who had been there, done that." Former 1980s goalkicking utility Mike Eden was one player who appreciated the contact. "I got a call out of the blue from Dean Matterson, one of the club's new signings.
