St George Illawarra young gun Cody Ramsey will miss the entire 2023 NRL season due to illness. Ramsey has been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. The Dragons confirmed the 22-year-old will not be able to play football for at least 12 months. Ramsey was hospitalised prior to Christmas after falling ill. He first noticed something wrong when on a long run during a summer training session."Unfortunately this ultimately required significant bowel surgery. This surgery was successful, however it will require multiple follow-up procedures over the coming season.," the club said in a statement. Ramsey is contracted to the club for seasons 2023 and 2024. But even though he won't be available to them this year, the club won't necessarily be compensated. "I don't know if they will get salary cap dispensation,". Charimen told "If the Dragons are to get dispensation Ramsey needs to be medically retired... Ramsey doesn't want to retire."
