The Bulldogs are undeniably planning for the long term, reflected by signing a 15-year-old prodigy from New Zealand. Halfback Aza Mautairi has signed with the club until the end of 2024 after blitzing all comers in his age bracket. Mautairi, from South Auckland, played for renowned league nursery Otahuhu Leopards before moving to Queensland this year, representing the Maroons at the under-15 level. He starred for Wavell State High School in the local Brisbane league, as well as shining in rugby union and touch football, attracting the attention of several NRL clubs. The Bulldogs won the race for the youngster's services and gave him a tour of the club's facilities this week. "We have heard good things about him and will leave him in Brisbane with his family for the next couple of years to complete his education," Bulldogs boss Phil Gould told. Mautairi can't wait to begin his time with the Dogs in 2023. "I will come down to Sydney a few times during the season," Mautairi said. "I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity that's been presented, and I can't wait for what the Bulldogs have to offer."
