Dragons royalty scores 'prime' coaching gig

A member of St George Illawarra royalty has won a prime coaching gig with the Dragons for 2023.Bronx Goodwin, son of the great 'Lord' Ted Goodwin, will coach the Dragons' NSW Cup team.A former utility back who played a handful of games for the Dragons in 2011-12, Goodwin continues a fine bloodline at the club.'Lord' Ted was a Dragons legend, playing more than 100 games for the club in the 1970s, including the 1977 drawn grand final against Parramatta and the replay a week later, which the Dragons won.Bronx's appointment is a significant one, with the Dragons expected to part company with first-grade coach Anthony Griffin once his contract expires at the end of next season and be on the lookout for a new head coach.Bronx's new gig is a surprising and meteoric rise. He was a Dragons Jersey Flegg assistant coach this year but made a big impression with the men that matter at the Red V.The Goodwins are a fine rugby league family. As well as dad Ted's long association with the game as a player and then referee, Bronx's brothers Bryson and Luke also played top-grade football. Both are still involved in the game. Bryson is a player agent and Luke is in charge of welfare at the Bulldogs.
