South Sydney legend John Sutton has revealed that he spent time this year in a rehab centre for alcohol abuse and depression.One of Souths' favourite sons of the modern era and record holder for most games for the club, Sutton has had a hard time of it since retiring from playing at the end of 2019.He remains a key man on Souths' staff, carrying the water bottle for coach Jason Demetriou in games.But through it all he has carried a dark secret."I have struggled the last few years transitioning out of football," Sutton told Andy Raymond's UNFILTERED podcast."I've been to rehab and tried to sort my life out with that."It's been good for myself the last few months, I've become a better person, someone who's there for my wife and my family."It hasn't been great the last few years transitioning out of football."I've suffered bad depression ever since retiring and obviously drinking hasn't helped that."I've just been working on myself and alcohol and trying to give up alcohol… every day I stay sober is a good day."Search Andy Raymond UNFILTERED on your podcast app for the full interview."He is raw and honest and it's compelling listening," Raymond told Wide World of Sports.
