Gus backs Ben Hunt for Dally M glory

Phil Gould has backed Dragons halfback Ben Hunt to win this year's Dally M Medal, saying that his standout season for a mediocre team was a big advantage. "It's hard, in those sort of voting styles that they have for awards like that, if you're playing in a team that's consistently winning and you've got a lot of really good players, votes get shared around a little bit," Gould said. "Rather than a Ben Hunt, who's been with a team that's had a mediocre season, but he's probably been the best player in a losing team a lot of times, and he's the best player when they win, he's usually the reason for it - which is why he accumulates a lot of points." Hunt was leading the vote tally when the scoreboard went behind closed doors, and is many people's pick to take the top prize home. "He's had a great year, but it's been a benefit to him being in that team at that level, rather than the likes of your Tedescos, or Dylan Edwards or Clearys or Mitchell Moses, or those players." For the record, Hunt himself has backed Nicho Hynes to take the top prize.
