Rabbitohs could back Roy Asotasi honour after protest march attendance

South Sydney are considering stripping former club captain Roy Asotasi of the award that bears his name after he participated in Saturday's controversial freedom march in Sydney. Asotasi not only attended the illegal rally, he proudly posted a picture of himself and former Bulldogs teammate Ben Roberts at the march on social media. Asotasi is a Souths legend and role model - the man who led the club to the finals for the first time in over 20 years in 2007 - and the negative attention it has drawn to the club has disappointed officials. The former Kiwi captain is held in such high esteem at Souths that they have named one of their prized end of season awards - the Roy Asotasi Members' Choice Award - in his honour. But Asotasi may find himself stripped of the award when Souths hold their next board metting in coming weeks. He and Roberts also face the prospect of $1000 fines from NSW Police for participating in the march.
