Sharks closing in on Reynolds signature on three-year deal

Craig Fitzgibbon is closing in on his first big signing as an NRL coach, with Adam Reynolds reportedly set to ink a three-year deal with the Sharks. Reynolds has met with Fitzgibbon this week and that the star halfback is ready to sign with the Sharks on a deal worth $2.4 million. The $800,000-a-season deal would see the goalkicking No.7 through until his 34th birthday and keep him in Sydney, a key point for the family man who was born and bred in the Redfern area. It's that connection with the heartland of South Sydney that has made this whole saga difficult to grapple with for Rabbitohs fans. Reynolds, the club captain, made it clear that it was his preference to stay, yet management were unwilling to budge on a one-year deal. It was that difference of opinion that could ultimately cost the Rabbitohs a club legend and it looms as a huge coup for the Sharks, who just last week lost Chad Townsend to the Cowboys for next season. Should Reynolds confirm his departure as expected, South Sydney will most likely turn to young guns Lachlan Ilias and Blake Taafe to partner Cody Walker in the halves.
