Bellamy considers slow build-up for Grant

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy will consider employing Harry Grant as a supersub in the short term as he weighs up the benefits of slowly ramping up his minutes following his return from injury. Grant made his anticipated season debut with the Storm in Saturday's romp over Canterbury, successfully returning from a knee injury suffering during the pre-season. It was also Grant's first game for the club since his prosperous loan to the Wests Tigers last season, where he finished as the competition's Dally M Rookie of the Year. Bellamy admitted Grant's return was almost delayed by another week. But the heir to Cameron Smith's No.9 jumper was injected off the bench 27 minutes into the first half, recording 65 metres off six carries, 31 tackles, and a try assist. "After our Tuesday session, we didn't think he was going to play. He looked proppy to be quite honest, and he wasn't overly happy with it himself at the end," Bellamy said."But the last two training sessions we had, he was great. He looked a lot better than our first session. And I was really happy with the way he played today. There's a lot of work and improvement with the combinations with the other players. "So we can look forward to him being a little bit more effective as he gets used to those combinations. I was really happy with his contributions tonight."
