Superstar forward Jason Taumalolo is expected to miss multiple weeks after breaking his hand at training, the North Queensland Cowboys announced on Thursday. It's a huge blow for the Cowboys, with the 27-year-old widely considered to be one of the game's best players and the best forward in the world. "A time frame on his return will become clearer in the coming days, although Taumalolo is not expected to be sidelined for more than a month," the club said in a statement. It's dreadful news for the club, coming off an awful round one performance in which they were thrashed 24-0 by last year's minor premiers, the Penrith Panthers. Taumalolo has dominated headlines around the club over the off-season and the past week, as debate over his playing time has continued to rage on. When news first broke that Todd Payten planned to use the 2015 premiership winner for shorter stints to make him more effective, it divided opinion.
